Maladaptive One-Leg Balance Control in Parkinson’s Disease

چکیده
Balance disorders are very frequent in Parkinson’s disease (PD). One-leg stance performance is a predictor of fall risk. We investigated one-leg strategies people with PD. hypothesized that patients would choose, and better perform on, the leg on least affected body side. Fifty participants 2 to 19 years PD duration stood one while ON medication. The spontaneously chosen was recorded. Performance compared between vs. contralateral, most stable legs. Influence duration, severity, age, cognition, motor fluctuations analyzed. Twenty-eight side, which not always one. standing influenced by switch side after seven duration. Fourteen (28%) their leg. Thus, some choose when asked stance. It important identify these since they may be at greater risk falls and/or gait difficulties. Specific rehabilitation help prevent such maladaptive strategy.

Balance control contributors - the relationships between leg strength and balance control ability in seniors.
The paper presents a study on leg strength as a balance control ability contributor. 9 seniors with the average age of 69.8 years participated in the experimental study. A psychomotor efficiency timer and a standard stabilograph were used in the study. The timer consisted of a computer, a controller and an arm and leg strength measurement station. The subjects performed stepping up movements wi...
متن کاملStatic balance according to hip joint angle of unsupported leg during one-leg standing
[Purpose] This study aimed to determine static balance according to hip joint angle of the unsupported leg during one-leg standing. [Subjects and Methods] Subjects included 45 healthy adult males and females in their 20s. During one-leg standing on the non-dominant leg, the position of the unsupported leg was classified according to hip joint angles of point angle was class. Static balance was ...
متن کاملBalance strategies in athletes with chronic ankle instability, Coper and healthy athletes while standing on one leg
Ankle sprain is one of the most commonly damaged lower extremities. More than 70% of people with ankle sprain experience chronic ankle instability. However, some people are well adapted to this damage (Coper people) and do not suffer from chronic ankle instability. The aim of this study was to compare EMG activity of the selected involved muscles in balance control strategies in athletes with c...
متن کاملBalance control is simplified by muscle-skeletal leg design
Different gaits with upright body configurations make human bipedal locomotion unique [1]. Upper body balance is key to human locomotion. To balance, humans may control the direction of the ground reaction force [2] and the center of pressure, either continuously or step by step. Older infants learn standing and walking upright while holding tight to stable objects [3], thereby simplifying bala...

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immediate effect of stabilizing exercise using the PNF technique on standing balance in one-leg and double-leg stances. [Subjects and Methods] The present study recruited 34 healthy participants from a local university. The Participants performed four balance tests (double-leg stance with and without vision, one-leg stance with and without...
